ATD Engineering & Machine Robotic Servomotor Grinding with Force Control

Utilizing a robot to grind castings is our niche in the automation world. As foundries struggle to find labor for manual grinding of castings, we have stepped in with robotics. Robotic grinding removes much of the danger to your operator, while also producing finish grind that is repeatable and within spec.

We have invested heavily in robotic grinding by installing a test / development cell in our own facility! Over the past 3 years we have built a cell with the following equipment:

  • 17hp  Servo Belt Sander by PushCorp

  • 30hp Custom Snag Grinder

  • 10hp, 15,000rpm servo driven spindle by PushCorp

  • 180Kg Motoman Robot

Our current cell at ATD is setup for Part to Media. This is 75% of how most grinding is done, but there are cases where we have done Media to Part. This is all dependent on the casting and your application.   

We also have the capability to offline studies in the Fanuc, ABB, and Motoman programming software.

Our R&D cell in Motomans MotoSim. We can use MotoSim before grinding a single casting to determine the process for your application.
